Heading into the heights with LOWA

Hans Kammer­lander has been a member of the alpine elite for years now. The offi­cially certified mountain and ski guide has stood at the pinnacle of 13 of the world’s eight-thou­sanders, including seven that he conquered along with Reinhold Messner. His excep­tional performances have made him a unique athlete in the world of moun­tain­eering.

These performances include the first ascent of two eight-thou­sanders (Hidden Peak at 8,068 metres and Gash­erbrum II at 8,035 metres) in 1984 and the first ski downhill run from the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest (8,850 metres), in 1996. In January 2012, Hans also successfully completed a years-long project: By climbing the 4,852-metre-high Mount Tyree in the Antarctic on 17 January 2012, he became the first person to scale all seven second summits on the world’s seven continents and wrote alpine history in the process.

Each year, Hans presents slide shows across Europe and has made a name for himself as a writer. One of his biggest projects is the film that he co-produced, “Manaslu – Der Berg der Seelen” (Manaslu – the Mountain of the Souls). The film celebrated its premiere at the end of 2018. It gives viewers special insights into the moun­taineer’s adventures and into Hans Kammer­lander as a human being.
